About the Book

This book represents a deeper exploration into the consequences of power and the resilience of the human spirit within the framework of Filipino folklore. I wrote Banaag to challenge my characters—and my readers—to find strength even when their greatest advantages are stripped away. It was a deeply rewarding process to weave more complex mythological figures like the Berbalang and the Bakunawa into a contemporary urban setting. This sequel demanded even more rigorous research into ancestral traditions and forbidden lore, as I sought to honor the depth of our cultural heritage while pushing the boundaries of the mythpunk genre.
